Next launch: electric Waymo Pacifica?by David Zatz on December 14, 2016 at 9:15 am EST Yesterday, Bloomberg wrote that it knew what Chrysler will unveil at the Consumer Electronics Show. Several outlets have already reported that Chrysler will reveal one or more new products at the CES rather than at the more traditional Detroit auto show in January. According to the reputable business news service, Chrysler will have two semi-surprises: a new all-electric version of the Chrysler Pacifica, which seems logical, and a venture with Google dubbed “Waymo,” which would use Chrysler minivans, adapted to semi-autonomous driving, for a ride-share/taxi-replacement service. Chrysler had already announced that it would make over a hundred hybrid minivans for Google to test self-driving systems. FCA is one of the few leading automakers to rely entirely on vendors for autonomous systems research. The Google / Alphabet auto team has, like Apple’s, recently been downsized and repurposed from building their own cars to working with automakers.
