Chicago to get five test-tracks

by David Zatz on

The 2017 Chicago Auto Show will have no less than five indoor test tracks, taking advantage of a massive convention center.  Camp Jeep started the trend, back in 2005; this year, FCA will have three tracks (Camp Jeep, multi-brand, and Ram Proving Grounds), and Toyota and Mercedes will each have one more.

The Mercedes track is similar to Jeep’s, if smaller, pushing the G SUV to a 45° incline and a movable platform similar to those used by Jeep in the past. Toyota’s is the “RAV4 and Highlander Experience.”

Ram’s Proving Ground has an active level station, construction culverts, torque pull, towing, mountain climb, and a high-wedge turn. [Video of the 2015 Jeep track]

The show’s organizers believe over 80,000 people  will take test drives this year.
