Last day for the Patriot and original Compass

by David Zatz on

Today, FCA confirmed that production of the original Jeep Compass and the only Jeep Patriot has ended.

The first front wheel drive based Jeeps, based on modified Mitsubishi platforms, were launched by DaimlerChrysler in 2004. The Compass was immediately criticized for having no off-road-ready version; that was addressed some years later.  Even the front wheel drive Patriot could take a decent amount of off-road use (see photo), though it’s not recommended.

Two major refreshes kept the cars competitive, and sales have been fairly strong even this year. The Patriot was replaced by the Jeep Renegade, though both sold together for some time; the Compass is being replaced by a second generation, already made in Brazil, and due for production in Mexico in around two to four weeks. (The old 2017 Jeep Compass was dubbed MK and the new one is MP, which may help owners trying to find parts.)

Those who want a Jeep Patriot may them at many dealers, but the supply is likely to run out within the next two or three months. The last day of production for both crossovers was December 23.
