Maserati keeps momentum

by David Zatz on

Maserati seems to have done well in US sales, going from 11,693 in 2015 to 12,534 in 2016. The numbers are small, but both were good years for the sport-luxury brand.

Maserati easily outsold Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and Lamborghini combined, even if you throw in Smart USA for good measure.  While Maserati is not meant to be a volume seller, widespread availability of the Levante crossover should dramatically increase worldwide sales and profitability (and Maserati was already quite profitable).

It’s good news for Chrysler and Dodge, given that FCA has that much more incentive to develop mass-market designs that Maserati can adapt. The Ghibli and Quattroporte are heavily modified, but based off the 300C; their twin-turbo V6 engines are loosely based on the Chrysler Pentastar design, with blocks made to a Ferrari design in Trenton, Michigan.
