Canadian, Mexican sales rose

by David Zatz on

FCA Canada sales rose by 2% over January 2016, hitting 18,443 for the month. Retail sales were 75% of the total, and were slightly down from last year, while fleet sales rose by 12%.

The biggest sellers in Canada were the Ram Pickup (6,064, down 10%), Cherokee (2,539, up 8%), Caravan (2,508, down 7%), Journey (1,388, up 23%), and Wrangler (1,268, up 15%). No other FCA Canada vehicle had 930 or more sales.

Fiat did fairly well, shooting up by 272% to 353 sales (from 95); all the Fiats combined sold about as well as the Jeep Renegade or Patriot. Both GM and Ford also posted small gains for the month.

Meanwhile, Mexico reported a 15% sales gain and its best January since 2009, now that Mitsubishi is in the fold.  The main seller was Dodge, with 3,726 (though its top seller, with 2,333 sales, was the Mitsubishi-built Attitude), followed by Ram (driven by the Fiat Strada-based 700).

Mitsubishi was the second highest selling brand, with 1,610 sales (adding in the Attitude, it was the best seller). Fiat came in with 1,108, a 51% hike, and Jeep followed at 906. Chrysler hit 114 and Alfa Romeo hit 38.
