Debut of Yuntu

by David Zatz on

The Jeep Yuntu Concept has officially been shown at the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show. The interior uses design cues from past Chrysler concepts, including the 200C, with an exterior that seems to draw from both the Jeep K8 and competing SUVs.

The car has a plug-in-hybrid powertrain, no longer far-fetched since the Pacifica Hybrid started production. Yuntu translates literally as “cloud map,” though computer translation shows Yun tu (separate words) as “morning sickness.” The pronunciation is different.

Some have speculated that the Yuntu uses some exterior styling cues which may appear on a Jeep Cherokee-based Chrysler crossover in the next two years.  The K8 (which may be called Yuntu on arrival) is based on the Cherokee, but is not simply a “stretched Cherokee.”
