Last year, FCA agreed to dramatically upgrade the paint shop at their Brampton, Ontario plant — an investment the union, Unifor, saw as key to keeping the plant active in the future.
Unifor President Jerry Dias told Automotive News, at the time, that their paint shop was one of the oldest within FCA, and that it would have a “complete rebuild” in 2017. An FCA representative confirmed that work on the paint shop was slated for this summer, but did not have any knowledge of projected downtime.
Overall, investments at Brampton were estimated at $245 million (C$325 million). The Windsor assembly plant, which builds minivans, was thoroughly renovated not long ago, as well. The casting plant near Toronto is also being upgraded.
