Crowdfunded Viper ’Ring run

by David Zatz on

In late 2011, Dominik Farnbacher had taken a 2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR around the 12.9 mile course in just seven minutes and twelve seconds, the second fastest performance by a road-going car (after the Gumpert Apollo Sport). The Viper’s performance has since been surpassed by two Lamborghinis, a Porsche, a Mercedes AMG, and the Nissan GT-R Nismo.

Dodge set 13 records with the Viper ACR, all in the US. The Viper Exchange estimated the cost of a Nürburgring record run at $156,000 — which Russ Oasis raised, through GoFundMe, in just four months. Thus, a pair of Dodge Viper ACR Extreme supercars and a team including Dominik Farnbacher and Luca Stolz will be leaving for Germany in July.

Compared with the prior Viper ACR, the current model is lighter, with better brakes, tires, and suspension, and a highly effective active aerodynamics package. It will need all the help it can get, to beat the 20-seconds-faster Lamborghini Huracán LP 640-4 Performante. Almost certainly, the Viper will move up in the rankings — the question is, by how much.   Via TorqueNews.
