Each year, cars.com makes a list of the “most American” vehicles. This year, the company stopped focusing so much on total sales, and looked more at content, assembly points, and the number of American jobs affected.
The changes had a huge impact on the listings. In the 2016 American-Made Index (AMI), when sales played a larger role, the top spots went to the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. Out of eight vehicles on the list, the Buick Enclave/Chevy Traverse/GMC Acadia clones were the only ones from a Detroit automaker — and they were at the bottom.
This year, using what can be considered more relevant figures, the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Cherokee are the most American vehicles you can buy. Three of the top five are American.
