Automotive News reported that the Ram 1500 diesel was back in production, albeit in small batches. According to the industry weekly, up to twenty of the VM-powered Rams are being produced on each shift.

FCA announced in May that it had submitted new engine-control firmware to the EPA, and was confident the new programming would be certified. Until that happens, the Rams can’t be sold in the US or Canada, so it’s likely the company is very confident indeed — or has orders outstanding in countries outside the US, Canada, and EU.

According to Automotive News’ Larry Vellequette, Ram may be dropping the EcoDiesel trademark, which never gained much traction among enthusiasts, with badges on Ram mules marked as “Diesel” rather than “EcoDiesel.” The trademarked name was likely a copy of Ford’s EcoBoost, used for its turbocharged gasoline engines.

Ram confirmed that it had made diesel Ram 1500s recently.
