Maserati going electric

by David Zatz on

According to Automotive News, every Maserati will be available in an “electrified” form starting in 2020.  The FCA CEO told analysts of the plan in a conference call yesterday, adding that there will be new all-electric Maseratis to go directly head to head with the money-losing Tesla.

He also said Ferrari was going to shift to hybrids starting in 2019. Hybrid cars can provide performance gains by providing instant torque from start, a strategy adopted by Lexus years ago.

The latest long-term plan will be shown to investors and the world early next year, covering product plans through 2022.
