Mopar at the Woodward Cruise

by Patrick Rall on

We have confirmed that FCA will not have an official corporate display at the upcoming Woodward Dream Cruise, partly because  its past location, a plaza at Woodward and 13 Mile Road, has been  ripped up for ongoing construction. This is disappointing for Mopar fans headed to the August event, but there are still key areas along the cruise route where Mopar fans can check out big groups of their favorite performance vehicles, old and new.

Why No Mopar Display?
If you have been to the Woodward Dream Cruise in the past decade or so and you are a Mopar fan, you likely visited the company’s huge display at the corner of Woodward Avenue and 13 Mile Road. For years, Mopar has had a massive spread of privately owned vehicles, concept vehicles, new models and displays for all of their new models, serving as a key attraction for Mopar fans at the Dream Cruise.

Unfortunately, the plaza and the large parking lot at the corner of Woodward and 13 Mile have been purchased by the nearby hospital. As a result, the buildings have been torn down and the lot has been ripped up for ongoing construction, meaning that FCA couldn’t have their normal display at that familiar intersection.

Some of you might be wondering why FCA doesn’t just move to a different parking lot along the lengthy cruise route, but it isn’t that easy. The Woodward Dream Cruise has become such a huge local event that businesses along the route plan well in advance, often booking their property for years in advance. As a result, when FCA learned last year that their parking area at 13 Mile Road would be gone after the 2016 Dream Cruise, they were forced to scramble to find a new location. Unfortunately, they were not able to find any available prime real estate along the route, so for the first time in my 12 years of attending the cruise – there will be no company display from Mopar.

Non-Corporate Mopar Areas
The good news is that Metro Detroit is chock full of beautiful old and new Mopars and many of them will be on display at the Woodward Dream Cruise in a few different areas (as well as scattered along the route in random lots). Also, with the Modern Street Hemi Shootout having their own area in Pontiac following their event in Milan, Michigan a few days before the Dream Cruise, the MSHS crew will have some of the quickest, fastest and most powerful modern Mopars in the world. In addition to those high performance Hemi cars, the MSHS area will have a mobile dyno on site with an ongoing competition to see who can lay down the biggest numbers, so in addition to the many burnouts done around the Woodward Loop, there will be some legal horsepower displays in the MSHS area.

Here is a list of some key Mopar display areas for the 2017 Woodward Dream Cruise. If your club has a Mopar area that you would like mentioned in the piece below, feel free to message Allpar on Facebook with information on your parking area. Mind you, not all of these parking areas have spots available, but for those Mopar fans at the Dream Cruise, these are areas where you can check out big groups of new and old Mopar performance vehicles.
