AN: Maserati slowing pace

by David Zatz on

According to today’s Automotive News, Maserati is slowing the pace of new launches, and possibly changing plans.

The Alfieri two-seater concept car is already overdue by a year; the coupe should have been here in 2016, the convertible in 2017. The industry weekly claims that the Alfieri might be in the midst of a redesign for electric power, with a new launch date of 2020. That would slate it for launch at the same time as the redesigned GranTurismo, according to the magazine.

The Levante is still new, using Maserati’s very loose adaptation of the Chrysler LX platform; the Ghibli, which is now four years old, will be freshened next year, while the big Quattroporte will have to wait until “at least 2022.” Finally, a compact crossover, planned to share with the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, may be shelved or redesigned.

The article cites unnamed sources and rumor, and plans at FCA are known to change rapidly, following markets and trends.
