Fewer, pricier Cherokees?

by David Zatz on

October is the final month to order 2018 Jeep Cherokees, before the revised 2019s are available — with production starting January 2, 2018.

2019 Cherokee

Reliable source oh2o told Allpar that the 2018 Cherokees will be sold down, while the 2019s build up in inventory, from January to June 2018.  By June, Jeep predicted that there would be around 10,000 2018 Cherokees left in inventory, while the 2019 reaches around 60,000.

The 2018 Cherokee is, in many ways, a better deal than the 2017s were; while the price-leading Sport is gone, the Latitude’s price dropped, even as it added HID headlamps, 17” aluminum wheels, fog lamps, roof rails, and bright trim. (The old Sport started at $23,695, while the new Latitude starts at $24,395).

Buyers of the Limited and Trailhawk now get standard blind spot and cross-path detection, as well as audible backup warnings.

The 2019, according to Allpar sources, will have standard LED high and low beams, a standard V6 engine, and an optional turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at, depending on the source, 250 to 280 horsepower, with V6-beating torque.  The 2019 Cherokee is expected to be positioned as a premium option, above the Compass, and may have lower sales targets as a result. Our best information is that the basic drivetrain will carry over, including the nine-speed automatic and mildly controversial dog-clutch-using all wheel driver system.

Jeeps are engineered and built by FCA (FCAU).
