Red, red, red — and other Demon colors

by Patrick Rall on

While FCA still hasn’t said much about the production run for the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, a breakdown of the first batch of 840-horsepower Mopar muscle cars has been making the rounds of the social media channels. This information comes from member PLMCRZY of, so it is not official. But that community has been a reliable source of production information for the other supercharged Dodge cars, so the odds are good that this information is accurate, too.

According to the chart created by PLMCRZY, FCA have assembled 161 examples of the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon at their Brampton, Ontario facility as of October 6th. In that first batch, all of the Demons were one of 11 color choices: Redline Red, Billet Silver, TorRed, Pitch Black, Go Mango, Destroyer Grey, Yellow Jacket, Octane Red, White Knuckle, Maximum Steel and Granite Crystal.

The chart lists percentages of production, with Redline Red being the most popular color thus far, accounting for 42.2 percent of the first 161 Dodge Challenger SRT Demons. That build percentage equates to about 68 cars. Billet Silver is the second most popular with 21.7 percent or 35 units and TorRed is third with 14.9 percent or 24 units. Pitch Black is the only other color ordered in double digit production units in the first batch of 161 Challenger Demons with 12 units (7.5 percent). Six ordered in Go Mango, five in Destroyer Grey, four in Yellow Jacket, three in Octane Red, two in White Knuckle and one unit each ordered in Maximum Steel and Granite Crystal.

So, if you ordered a 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon early on in one of those colors listed above and you paid MSRP, your 840 horsepower Mopar muscle car could exist right now. So far, there has been no official word as to when deliveries to dealerships will begin, but a few Demon owners with whom I have spoken have been told that they could get their new Challengers by the end of this month.

Some of the folks who ordered a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon have been unhappy with the lack of updates, as some buyers have a VIN and some do still do not. But I should remind everyone that this is a special car with a very strict quality control process. Much like the first batch of Hellcat Challengers, the first Demon units will be heavily inspected inch by inch before being shipped out to the upfitting center, where final touches such as badging and the drag radial tires will be added. The combination of the quality control process and the upfitting process will slow down deliveries a bit, but once new Demons begin reaching dealerships and owners we should see a steady delivery rate.

2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Production by Color Through 10/6/17:
Redline Red – 68
Billet Silver – 35
TorRed – 24
Pitch Black – 12
Go Mango – 6
Destroyer Grey – 5
Yellow Jacket – 4
Octane Red – 3
White Knuckle – 2
Maximum Steel –1
Granite Crystal – 1
Total – 161
