Top 10 Fun: nine imports, one Chrysler

by Chris Vander Doelen on

How many times have you seen a Top 10 list that was all imports? Too many. Here’s one with a Chrysler as the lone Detroit product among nine German and Japanese vehicles.

Autoguide.com has taken Consumer Reports 2017 reliability score rankings and done a mashup with the vehicles its staff consider fun to drive. The outcome is a thing they call the Top 10 Reliable Cars That Are Also Fun To Drive.

You could debate the presence of some of the vehicles on the list, and some commenters do. “What is a BMW doing here?” asks one. “How is a Chrysler in an article about reliable cars? I feel like you’re trolling us,” snipes another.

But saying most of these vehicles are solid and fun wouldn’t shock anyone who knows a bit about cars: BMW M2, Porche Macan, Audi Q3, Honda Civic Si, Hyundai Elantra Sport, Lexus GS F, Nissan 370Z, Mazda 3, Toyota 86 … but wait, the Chrysler Pacifica?

“What’s a minivan doing here?” the site asks readers. “It might come as a shock, but the Pacifica is pretty fun to hustle around for what it is. It displays a solid and planted feeling for a vehicle of this size and its 287-horsepower V6 sounds entertaining when asked to deliver at full throttle.”

Okay, so maybe it’s a curve ball among the straight pitches. But the 10-step jump in quality rankings for the Chrysler brand over the 2016 rankings has obviously made a few people sit up and take notice.

There is a Chrysler 300 in his driveway.
