When the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon was introduced, the company made it pretty clear that they only planned to make 3,300 units for this one model year.

Lately, though, we’ve been hearing more and more rumors about “another Challenger Demon in 2019” from our friends in the dealership world. Over the past few weeks, these rumors have intensified, with people flocking to their favorite forums and Facebook groups to share what they heard from their local Dodge salesman.

Before you follow them, we have to say that they have been led astray. There is no 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon on the way.

The company hasn’t announced product plans for the 2019s, but it has been made clear from Day One that the 2018 Demon would only be built and sold for 2018, with no 2019 Demons. The company has gone on the record multiple times saying this, but since so many people have missed it, here is a look back:

The Dodge Boss Says So

When I first sat down with Dodge boss Tim Kuniskis to discuss the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, we talked about every aspect of the car. When we were done, his parting comment was:

“2018 only, one-and-done. The people who sit back and wait for next year are going to miss out.”

Kuniskis has made similar comments in countless interviews with all sorts of media outlets, so the man in charge of the Dodge brand has been very clear in stating that the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon will only be offered in 2018.

The Letter to Buyers

Next, each person who purchased a 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon received a letter with information on the car and the first line reads “congratulations on being one of only 3,300 passionate performance enthusiasts to own a piece of automotive history”.

If the company planned to build more Demons for 2019 or even more units for 2018 if the demand was high enough, that letter wouldn’t tell the owners that they are one of 3,300 people who will own the vehicle.

Why These Points Matter

Now, some of the loudmouths on the internet insist that Tim Kuniskis’ comment and the information in the letter don’t actually prevent the company from making more Demons in 2019 and to some extent, they are right. FCA could go against what their executives and official documents say and build more Demons in 2019, but that would open them up to a variety of lawsuits.

Openly stating that the Demon is one year only and limited to 3,300 units played a big part in people rushing to their dealership to order the 840 horsepower Challenger. If they ended up making more cars in 2019, they would be guilty of false advertising, but it would also have an impact on the value of the 2018 cars.

These cars were purchased by some people as collectables that will someday be worth more than they originally paid. They expect to make money on these cars, based on the fact that they are limited to just one year and 3,300 units, but if the company ended up making another 3,000 in 2019, it would have a massive negative impact on the value of the 2018 models.

In short, if Dodge went back on what they said and they made more than 3,300 Demons for public purchase, they would face lawsuits for false advertising while also being liable for the loss of value.

Future Use of Demon Components

While we believe that the company will not go back on their plans to only build 3,300 Demons, we do believe that FCA could use features of the 840-hp Challenger in other models.

The Demon’s flared body design is already at use on the Widebody Hellcat.

The Demon’s Torque Reserve system is already at use in the Jeep Trackhawk.

There are rumors that Dodge is working on a hotter Hellcat with the Demon’s engine, and if that car comes to production, it might have the intercooler chiller system and perhaps the Torque Reserve system, but a few components of the Demon do not a Demon make. A more-powerful Hellcat Challenger (possibly with 808 horsepower) won’t devalue the 2018 Demon.

Finally, there is a possibility that when the next generation of the Dodge Challenger arrives in a few years, there will be a model similar to the current Demon, but once again, an all-new 2021 or 2022 Challenger with the components of the 2018 Demon won’t have an impact on the value of the 840-hp Mopar monster hitting the streets across the country right now.

Bottom line, there is no Challenger SRT Demon coming for 2019, so don’t spread bad information from a salesman or “a guy you know” – because they don’t know what they are talking about.
