Ram celebrates Kentucky Derby sponsorship with special edition

by Patrick Rall on

Ram has been announced as the Official Truck of Churchill Downs and the Official Truck of the 2018 Kentucky Derby. This is the ninth time that Ram has been the key automotive sponsor for “The Run for the Roses” and to celebrate this year’s partnership with the fabled horse race – the company has cooked up a special edition package based on the all-new 2019 Ram 1500.

While some other major horse races like the Dubai World Cup and the Pegasus World Cup have captured the attention of the equestrian world, the Kentucky Derby is still the premier thoroughbred race in the world. As the first leg of the sport’s coveted Triple Crown, competitors come from around the world to take a shot at winning the annual race at Churchill Downs and both in the US and around the world, there is no single horse race that has a greater television audience that the Kentucky Derby.

The importance of the race coupled with the viewing audience – both on television and in person – has made the Kentucky Derby a key advertising event. In much the same way that the NFL’s Super Bowl captures a massive audience in the football world, the Derby offers many of the same marketing opportunities for the horse world.

With that in mind, the Ram Truck brand has secured its spot as the “official truck” of both Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby – the ninth time that the Hemi-powered pickup has been the most prominently-display vehicle on the grounds.

“The Kentucky Derby has long been among America’s most cherished sporting events,” said Mike Manley, Head of Ram Brand – FCA. “The close ties between Ram trucks and the equine community have led us to the introduction of the 2019 Ram 1500 Kentucky Derby Edition. The Ram 1500 is a no-compromise truck that delivers capability, durability, technology and safety and is well-suited to meet the needs of all kinds of owners, including those who love horses.”

Brand Presence at the Derby

Whether you are attending the 144th running of the Kentucky Derby in person or you are watching it at home, the presence of the Ram brand will be hard to miss. Fans at Churchill Downs will get to check out the 2019 Ram 1500 and other Ram trucks via unique displays, which will likely include photo-ops with the new trucks. There will also be “video board integrations” which likely means that the Ram Trucks logos will be found on the various screens around the grounds, along with plenty of logos around the track.

Also, if there is signage similar to prior years, we can expect to see some of the huge stable buildings sporting the Ram logo on the roof, so aerial shots of the track will showcase the Ram brand as well.

Finally, there has been no mention of this, but in past years, some of the jockeys in the Kentucky Derby was officially sponsored by Ram, with the logo on the thigh area of their riding breeches. Last year, that portion of the program was announced closer to the May running of the race, once the starting order of the Derby had been announced.

Of course, in addition to the displays and signs around the grounds, there will be plenty of commercials for the Ram Truck brand running during the television broadcast of the day’s festivities.

Ram 1500 Kentucky Derby Edition

To celebrate another year of the Ram brand being the Official Truck of Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby, the company has announced a special edition package for the all-new 2019 Ram 1500.

The 2019 Ram 1500 Kentucky Derby Edition builds on the top of the line Limited trim level and it begins on the outside, with a newly-introduced Ivory White Tri-Coat exterior paint, Kentucky Derby Edition logos on the bedside and a new body-colored trim package that has never before been offered with the Ram 1500 Limited. If Ivory White isn’t your thing, the Derby Edition Ram is also available in including Delmonico Red, Diamond Black Crystal, Granite Crystal, Max Steel or Patriot Blue. Buyers can select four-wheel-drive or rear-wheel-drive, but this package is only available with the Crew Cab and the 5’7” cargo box.

Other features of the 2019 Ram 1500 Kentucky Derby Edition include the stunning 12-inch UConnect system with Sirius XM 360L and navigation, the air suspension system, power running boards, a high tech trailer towing package, premium leather-wrapped front and rear seats with heated and cooled surfaces and unique wood and metal trim throughout the cabin.

The 2019 Ram 1500 Kentucky Derby Edition will be limited to just 2,000 units and the base price for this loaded half-ton truck is $54,835, including destination. Although the Derby doesn’t run until May, this special edition package can be ordered at your local Ram dealership today.
