Don Schumacher Racing, which claims to be the largest team in professional drag racing, announced the addition of a ninth competition entry during the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway.

Veteran Pro Stock racer Mark Pawuk is joining the seven-driver lineup, to pilot the Empaco Equipment Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak. He will compete in the NHRA Factory Stock Showdown Series (FSXX) starting in June, debuting during the Thunder Valley Nationals, the third event of the series’ seven-race schedule.

DSR’s first foray into Sportsman competition began earlier this year by announcing that Leah Pritchett would drive in both Top Fuel and Factory stock, running a supercharged Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak.

Three-time world champion Sportsman racer Kevin Helms joined DSR as crew chief for Pritchett’s 354-Hemi-powered Drag Pak, as well as Pawuk’s.

DSR now campaigns four Funny Cars, three Top Fuel dragsters, and two Factory Stock Showdown cars.

Pawuk had previously contended in Pro Stock, where he raced to six victories before making his final Pro Stock appearance in 2006. “The Cowboy” said, “I never really retired, rather I just sort of stepped away. … I wasn’t quite ready to hang up my driving shoes for good just yet, and I felt like I had some unfinished business, so this was a great opportunity to give it another shot.”
