2019 Durango: tweaked, not shaken

by David Zatz on

Today, Dodge launched the 2019 Durango, a bit early.

The big, comfortable SUV has five models, with a choice of rear wheel drive or all wheel drive on every model, and three engine options. Ordering for the 2019s is open now, with expected arrival this fall.

Across the board, the trailer towing package will include an integrated trailer brake (the Durango has the best towing capacity in its segment). Blind-spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path detection is a free-standing option. Other changes are:

2019 Durango SRT — America’s fastest, most powerful three-row SUV, powered by a 392 Hemi rated at 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, continues largely unchanged, so its 4.4 second 0-60 time and 12.9 second quarter mile remain — along with an 8,700 pound towing capacity.  New options are red seat belts, lightweight Brembo brakes with two-piece rotors, 825-watt, 19-speaker audio, and 20-inch Matte Vapor or Brass Monkey wheels.

The Durango R/T comes with a standard 5.7 Hemi, rated at 360 horsepower, with a 7,400 pound tow rating. There are two new options, Sepia leather seats and the 825-watt Harman Kardon audio.

The Citadel, which comes with a standard 295-horse V6 (the Hemi is optional), now has standard second-row captain’s chairs and the optional Harman Kardon audio system.

The 2019 Durango GT, also powered by the V6, will share the Durango SRT and R/T’s front fascia and LED fog lamps, with an optional “SRT-inspired” heat-extractor hood, with a center air inlet duct.  New options are cloth seats and 20-inch wheels with a Satin Carbon or Brass Monkey finish.

The Durango SXT will have leather seats and standard five-passenger seating that can be configured in 50 different ways.

There will be eleven colors, including three new ones (all late availability). The new colors are Reactor Blue, Destroyer Gray, and F8 Green; continuing are In-Violet, Octane Red, Redline Red, Granite, Billet, DB Black, White Knuckle, and Vice White.
