Bloomberg: get ready for a Wrangler recall

by David Zatz on

FCA is prepping a recall of 18,000 new Jeep Wranglers because drivers may lose control of steering, if a bad weld on the front track bar breaks free. The forthcoming recall, described in a notice to dealers, will come sometime before the end of the year.

There doesn’t seem to be a great deal of urgency, despite the severity of the problem; only 4% of the recalled Wranglers have the problem, the company said, and there have been no accidents or injuries yet.

The immediate result is a stop-sale, because some of these Wranglers haven’t been sold yet. Dealers will inspect the SUV and sell those without the flaw.

Bloomberg’s story did not mention which model year (or years) were at fault, though since they mentioned a forthcoming pickup version, one can assume it was the 2018 JL series. Nor did they describe the repair process.
