Pacifica: IIHS Top Safety Pick

by David Zatz on

In the same month the Wrangler got a one-star rating from EuroNCAP, the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica became an IIHS Top Safety Pick. (IIHS is the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety; it’s funded by insurance companies.)

Because 72% of the body structure is made of high-strength steel, the Pacifica is both stronger than the old Town & Country and 250 pounds lighter. Its forward collision warning system has sensor-fusion technology, which combines camera and radar sensors to catch issues that, say, Teslas and Uber autonomous cars miss.

The 2019 Pacifica Touring Plus has the “Advanced SafetyTec Group” standard, including forward collision warning (with braking), lane departure warning, and front and rear parking assistance (with stops).
