2019 Ram 1500 steering recall

by David Zatz on

FCA US LLC is recalling around 185,000 2019 Ram 1500 pickups, around a third of which are still at dealers, to tighten a fastener.

An internal investigation showed that some of the pickups made before October 25 may have a poorly connected battery ground-circuit fastener which can, over time, loosen enough to cause the electric power steering to shut down. Drivers would still have control, but the steering feedback would be inconsistent, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall involves tightening the fastener.

So far, there have been no related crashes; and the information released tells a story of where Rams are selling. Around 159,740 of the recalled pickups are in the USA, with 18,682 in Canada (more than expected), 407 in Mexico, and 3,409 outside North America.
