Renegade/500X recall

by David Zatz on

FCA is recalling 2019 Jeep Renegades and the 2019 Fiat 500X to fix a software problem which may disable passive safety features.  All the cars in this group were built from March 12, 2018 to April 3, 2019.  The software was changed on April 3 to avoid the problem.

FCA found the issue in March 18, 2019. The decision to start a recall came the same day as the new software, on April 3.  The fix is a simply software update.

There have been no crashes or injuries related to the problem.  FCA discovered that the computer memory may be incorrectly updated when diagnostic tools query it. FCA did not reveal which safety features would be disabled, but the component is the airbag control module.
