What would you call FCA/Renault/Nissan? (updated)

by David Zatz on

Allpar members have been discussing what the new Fiat-Chrysler-Renault-maybe-Nissan-and-Mitsubishi alliance might be called.

FCA and Renault - Nissan

Riker Automotive is part of Chrysler’s distant history, so one member suggested Federated Motors: “after all, Chrysler history is filled with nameplates later used on Star Trek vessels. Too bad the combined entity will not be headquartered in Canada—then it could be Dominion Motors.”  Then, among the acronyms, we have:

  • All-inclusive Motor Corporation and Amalgamated Motors Corp. (“AMC”)
  • Nissan Alfa Samsung Chrysler And Renault (“NASCAR”)
  • Fiat Universal, Chrysler and Renault (“FUNCAR”)*
  • United Against Volkswagen and Toyota (“UAVAT”)
  • Society for Amazingly Reliable Cars and Sexy Machinery (“SARCASM”)
  • Vehicles Always Promised, Often Rescinded (“VAPOR”)

Others were closer to the logic behind FCA:

  • Fiat-Renault-Alfa-Nissan-Chrysler-Others
  • FNCAR (Fiat-Nissan-Chrysler-And-Renault), FCARNM (FCA-Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi), FCRNM… and such.

Some options are fairly generic names, like United Automobiles, World Motors, and Global Motors (“GM”). Four from Chrysler’s past are Maxwell, Standard, Consolidated, and International Motors. A pitch for Consolidated Motor Company was followed by a suggestion of Complicated Motors and then Convoluted Motors.  With so many brands, though, one member suggested “Diamond Star Automotive.”

Just as Mike Manley was, as an Englishman, best suited to avoid arguments about whether Italy or the US were “on top” of FCA, a name with none of the original companies could be best (which is why there’s an FCA US and an FCA Italy). That brought suggestions like Diamond Star Automotive, and Integrated/Consolidated/World/Global Transportation (ITC, CTC, WTC, and GTC).

What will the new outfit be named? Post your suggestions here!

* There is already a FunCar company.
