Is Dodge showing off the 2020 Challenger Hellcat in Frostbite?

by Patrick Rall on

As you can see in the image below, back on July 17th, the official Dodge Facebook page shared a picture of a Challenger SRT Hellcat from the front end that became a popular topic of conversation across the social media website. What makes this picture special is the exterior color, as this appears to be the same “Frostbite” blue that was formally introduced on the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody.

If this is indeed Frostbite, than this picture effectively offers us our first look at the 2020 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. Frostbite is a new color for 2020 and while we don’t have any information on the 2020 Challenger, the car shown above certainly appears to be painted the same dark-metallic blue as the widebody Charger shown below.

Upon seeing the discussion about this picture (hat tip to Joe Mayer for bringing it to my attention), I reached out to a few members of the Mopar community who have experience with the B5 Blue Challenger. One was Sam Chapa, who owns the gorgeous Redeye shown below, and I asked him what he thought, as someone who spends lots of time looking at his own B5 Blue car that is shown in the following two pictures.

He pointed out that in the right lighting, his B5 Blue Redeye can look similar to the new Frostbite blue, but even with that in mind, he believes that the car shown at the top of the piece is not the same color as his car shown at the bottom of this piece. Frankly, I agree, and if we are both correct, the picture atop this article is our first look at the 2020 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody – possibly in Redeye form – with the new Frostbite blue exterior hue.

Based on the initial feedback from the debut of the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody, Frostbite could prove to be a very popular color if offered on the Challenger. Unfortunately, we don’t have any official information just yet on the 2020 model year Challenger, but Frostbite looks even better in person than it does in pictures, so I am really hoping to see it offered on the coupe in the coming model year.

So, do you think that this is a shadowy picture of a 2019 Hellcat Challenger in B5 or is this our first look at a 2020 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye in Frostbite? Share your input in the comments below.
