Ram 1500 Crew Cab: first “Top Safety Pick+”

by David Zatz on

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has handed out its ever rating of “Top Safety Pick+” for a pickup—to the 2019-2020 Ram 1500 Crew Cab.

The “+” rating was aided by adaptive LED projector headlamps with high-beam assist, along with the existing automatic emergency braking (Forward Collision Mitigation) system. The cost of the system was reduced somewhat by putting it into an integrated module, with both the camera and radar behind the rear view mirror.

The Ram 1500 achieved the top score in each IIHS frontal impact test, as well as the  rollover, side impact, and rear impact tests. A unique splayed-front frame helps in crash protection without adding excess weight.
