2020 Dodge Challenger 50th Anniversary Edition Debuts in LA

by Patrick Rall on

The Dodge Challenger was first introduced for the 1970 model year. That means that with the arrival of the 2020 model year, Challengers have been on the road for 50 years. To celebrate the golden anniversary of the Mopar muscle car, Dodge has introduced the 50th Anniversary Edition package for the Challenger. Offered on the GT RWD, R/T Shaker, R/T Scat Pack Shaker and R/T Scat Pack Widebody Shaker, this limited edition appearance package adds unique appointments inside and out.

“2020 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Dodge Challenger, one of the most storied muscle cars in history,” said Tim Kuniskis, Global Head of Alfa Romeo and Head of Passenger Cars – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America. “That history was built on a few key things: big attitude and big muscle, loud colors and loud exhausts, and an enthusiast community that is as unique and diverse as our special editions. So, to commemorate the 50th, we’re celebrating with a cool new special edition that checks all of these boxes.”

The Challenger 50th Anniversary Edition package is offered on the V6-powered GT rear-wheel-drive model and three V8 models. We imagine that most people who are looking to buy a commemorative muscle car will opt for one of the three V8s, all of which come with the legendary Shaker hood option.

All of the modern Challengers with the Shaker hood have come with a matte black painted scoop poking through the hood, but the 50th Anniversary Edition is the first to feature a body colored Shaker scoop. While the scoop is painted, the hood of these 50th Anniversary Edition cars is painted matte black while the roof and trunk are wrapped to match. There are also unique Challenger 50 badges on the grille in the new “Gold School” finish, with fender badges in the same color.

The inner headlights of each Challenger with this package will display an illuminated “50” when the lights are on.

The Scat Pack comes with 20×9.5-inch wheels and the Scat Pack Widebody comes with 20×11-inch wheels. On those models with Brembo brakes, the calipers are painted Gold Rush as well.

On the inside, the Dodge Challenger 50th Anniversary Edition package begins with a premium Nappa leather treatment, paired with Alcantara suede, all in black. Sepia accent stitching and carbon fiber accents provide a premium look and feel while the unique gauge cluster, dash badging and floor mats highlight the 50th birthday of the Challenger.

50th Anniversary Edition

The Dodge Challenger 50th Anniversary Edition will be offered in four trim levels and six exterior colors, with 70 units of each combination planned for production. In other words, there will be 70 Dodge Challenger 50th Anniversary Edition R/T Scat Pack Widebody Shaker cars in Go Mango, another 70 in Gold Rush, etc. There will also be 70 Go Mango R/T Shakers and 70 Go Mango R/T Scat Pack Shakers, so all said and done, there will be a maximum of 1960 total examples of the 50th Anniversary Edition Challenger produced for 2020.

In each car, the badge located with the passenger’s side HVAC vent will point out the exterior color and the sequence number out of 70, which is a cool feature for the package.

Hellcat Challenger 50

There is no 50th Anniversary Edition package for the 2020 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat or Redeye, but all 2020 Hellcat Challengers will come with unique “Challenger 50” grille badging as standard equipment.
