battery light

Hi, Question: For what reasons does the computer turn on the battery light? Have a 2007 Cruiser with "battery light" about 5 minutes after start. Voltage across battery with DVM is 14.7 with battery light off, 14.7 with light on. Scan tool shows battery voltage of 14.8 with battery light...
