Hello,

I have '08 GC Limited with a MyGIG 730N RER unit. So the other day, all three left side speakers decided to go out. The only thing you can hear out of them is a hum, while the right side works fine. Does any one know of a way to diagnose this issue? Could it be amplifier or the head unit itself? I am thinking it is the main board in the head unit, but don't want to throw money at it until I know for sure.

Thanks for your assistance in advance.

Welcome to Allpar. Always diagnose first. The MyGig and amplifiers are addressable with an advanced scan tool like the WiTech. They can store fault codes and undergo scan tool tests.
It could be relatively simple software update or fractured solder joint issues as well.

Hello IC. Thanks for your input. Unfortunately, it looks like the WITECH is subscription based at $1300/year. Would be better off buying new. A dealer told me if they found a fault in the radio, they would just send it out for repair and looking at $800+. Is there any way to extract codes without a scan tool or a basic model? Any basic diagnosis that can be done to eliminate components?

Thanks again for your assistance,
CJ

It may be worth paying the shop diagnostic fee to provide you with a diagnosis, then go from there. The diagnostic fee is usually the same as the minimum charge, about 1 hr or about $100. Ask for the policy up front. Have them provide you with the diagnosis, then stop.
If they can perform the software updates while still using the minimum charge, that would be great. Work with them. There are a number of TSB's, but none directly address your symptoms. It probably is an internal issue that would have to go to a Chrysler electronic repair depot. I have used United Radio in Syracuse, NY for repairs:

United Radio was the only place I could find a body computer for the 92 several years ago. They seem to be the vendor of choice for most Chrysler circuit boards now.
