Well, crap. My painter flaked on me. After stringing me along all fall and winter, he passed me off to a shop in Chambersburg, PA. Seems like a top-notch shop, but it's almost an hour away. So, I headed over to a local body shop that's worked on the Charger before and has done some work on my '55 Plymouth. They're going to paint it, but they're not sure exactly when they can start. So, looks like a large part of the 2018 season is lost to an unreliable painter who continued to make assurances right up to the point he abandoned the job. Since he gets most of his work by word of mouth, this can't be good for him in the long run as I'm surely going to tell anyone who will listen about how this went down. The part that really pisses me off is that he had me strip it to get a head start. I'm not putting it back together until it's painted.

I had wanted Viper Stryker Purple, but the body shop I'm using says they can't find a formula for that color in the paint line they use. Maybe just as well since the painter who bailed on me suggested that color. I like the idea of getting completely away from previous bad experiences.

Stopped by the body shop yesterday. They had a '59 Ford that set them way back as the owner kept adding items to the list of things he wanted done once he got his car in the shop. Probably still 10 days to 2 weeks away from getting it in. Trying to decide what color tail stripe to go with the Black Rose Metallic. I'm thinking of a pearl white or a metallic silver.

OMG, that is a good color. Not my car, but I am leaning toward the metallic silver stripe.

I’ll see if I can mock one up for you. Any requests?

Criswell Chevrolet in Gaithersburg, MD had one leftover '17 Corvette in Black Rose. We drove down there yesterday to take a look and I was not disappointed. I'm almost certain that's my color. I keep going back and forth regarding the stripe color between white and silver. I guess whichever way the pendulum is swinging when it finally hits the paint booth will determine whether white or silver gets the nod. I stopped by the body shop last Wednesday. I seem to be stuck in a perpetual "2 more weeks" holding pattern. But, I have faith that once they take it in, it'll get done and done well.

I've finally found a shop with which I feel comfortable entrusting the Charger. I'm throwing the job to Doug Carbaugh's Auto Restoration near Waynesboro, PA. The downside is the Charger is about 7th in the shop's queue, so, at this point, I don't know when it'll actually go in. It was much harder than I imagined it would be to find a shop to do this type of work. Every shop around here only seems to want to do insurance work.

It was an expensive lesson learned. I'm just hoping the thing works. I may wind up having to send it to someone else to ensure it's correct. When I contacted her around the beginning of January 2018 and asked if she could get it done over the winter. It tooks months after she assured me she could to get her to respond to an email (she had my motor by this point). Eventually, I was assured she'd finish it up over Memorial Day weekend. It finally showed up just before Christmas. Very disappointed with the lack of communication. After hearing from others who've used her, I'm afraid the motor might be full of glass beads. I guess I'll have to plug the harness into it and see if it works.
