Welcome to Allpar. Do the instructions offer any good ideas?
I would think that mounted on the frame by the tank would be best as long as it is protected from the elements. A splash or dust shield could help.
The firewall may be more free of dust and splash, but I would be concerned with the high underhood temperatures.
