hi guys, new to forum

I need to replace the cam in my 86 Omni with flat tappet cam, my mechanic wants to put in a roller cam from a newer 2.2 model. Does anyone know if this can be done. thanks

Having wiped a cam lobe on a hydraulic-flat-tappet engine (a late seventies 360 in my case) wish that the engine had been roller. If a roller cam will install and run properly, you don't have to go so crazy with ZDDP additive or with diesel oil to keep that engine lubricated properly.

What killed the old cam?

Yes this will work, I have done this a few times over the years. The engine will be quieter and idle smoother. Over all a good improvement.
