Been perusing the service manual and noticed rear discs were optional on my 2000 Sport w/3.3 engine.

Are rear discs for this generation rare ?

Can't say I have ever seen one ?

Thanks..........................

The All wheel drive vans had the rear disks that I know of, at least 1998 and later. Not sure of the rest. My fully loaded '98 T&C front wheel drive though has rear drums. Most of the vans of this era that I see always seems to have the rear drums.

I think it was AWD only that got the rear discs.

Yes, the '00 T&C Ltd AWD van we owned had rear disc brakes. Also had the Nivomat rear shocks ($$$), but they rode great and kept the van leveled out when heavily loaded.

Not sure of the high trim level Caravans had rear discs if not AWD.

Actually, there were quite a few in the snow belt, even though it really wasn't needed. There are still a number of AWD Chevy Astro vans around.

Well I have had two 3.3s and a 4.0L and they all have gotten 19.5-20.5 highway/city combo.

I would hate to think what an AWD all the time minivan did on gas.....................

If I recall correctly, AWD units were about 2% of all sales. So yeah not that many.

Our '00 T&C Ltd AWD with the 3.8L wasn't all that bad. Easily 24 mpg highway, but usually 25-26 mpg. Local driving is where it was not so good - averaged 15-16 mpg running around the county. But considering a FWD minivan only got 17 or 18 in the same conditions, 16 isn't all that bad, all things considered.
