Hi everyone,

I have a 2001 1st Gen PT and I am not liking the original "Duck head" shifter. I like the looks of the later year ball shift stick and want to replace it with.

I've asked around and got a few different responses.

1) I can only use 2003~2005 sticks
2) I may loose 1st gear
3) the manual shift won't work
4) may need slight modification to work on older PT's

Can anyone 2001 owner(s) confirm or have already done it?

I converted my 01 from the duck head to the ball style. I replaced the entire shifter unit with one from an 06. Only thing I had to change was the connecter link from the cable rod to the shifter. I used the connecter from my 01. The 01 is shorter than the 06. I found that I could have swapped the shifter shaft by itself, but it was more time and work. --- John
