Welcome to Allpar. The mode door selects the direction of the air (floor, panel or defrost). You are probably watching the recirc or blend door move on the right side if you are selecting recirc or temperature.
If the problem doesn't go away with a battery disconnect, then it is in 'hard' failure. The mode door or drive motor (actuator) may be jammed or sticking. It is on the left side of the housing above the gas pedal. You may need to disassemble some dash panels to get to it.
It could be foreign material build-up on the exposed cams/gears or the door inside the HVAC box may be stuck. The plastic doors have a rubber edge seal that can stick to the housing. A spray of silicone can keep them slippery and help keep them free if this is the case. I have found pens and coins inside the HVAC housing that have jammed these air control doors. Objects may fall or roll into the vents or the defroster grille.
Remove the actuator from the housing and see if the drive slot moves in both directions with changing the mode control. If so, then the actuator should be OK. If not, replace the actuator.
See if you can move the mode door by hand from stop-to-stop with the actuator removed.

Recalibration is done after door movement is restored by the battery disconnect/reconnect method. A/C on, In panel mode, blower high and recirc off for about 5 minutes.
