Dorman makes a replacement with spring and the cage. It's a common problem. Any auto parts store should have it. It just snaps in.
To prevent breakage in the future, two things:
1) Remove the air intake hose to allow the filter to be lifted straight out without tilting it around the hose.
2) Don't overtorque the cap to the oil filter housing - 25 Newton-meters, or 18 ft-lbs, is the spec.

That’s just the bypass valve though. This is the entire piece the filter rides on

 

Welcome to Allpar. If more is missing than the pressure relief valve, you may need an OFA assembly?

 

Luckily I was waaay over thinking it. Centered it and after putting the filter back on screw the cap on and with the force of that it seated the o-ring back in. Works just as before 😅

 

I am of the mindset of "if it an't broken, don 't fix it" Whats the reason to go from the proven spin on filter we used for 50 years to this mess?

 

I recall lots of quick oil change places breaking those filters, too. The last time I went to a quick lube, they "holed" the NEW filter by grabbing it really hard with the wrench.

 

Our Equinix had the paper cartridge filter. Less messy to change than any spin on filter. Did have to buy a special socket though. No worse than having to purchase filter wrenches.

Our Rav4 requires a $50 tool to remove & install the filter. Said nuts to that and just have the dealer service it.
