According to Allpar sources, the next-generation Chrysler 200, which is being engineered by both Lancia and Chrysler and is based on the same basic platform and architecture as the Dodge Dart, will have a wider variety of engines than the current model. Originally believed to be sold with just the 3.2 liter V6 and nine-speed automatic, the 2014 or 2015 Chrysler 200 is reported to boast an increased-power Chrysler TigerShark 2.4 (around 200 hp) and either the 3.2 or 3.6 liter V6. The 1.4 liter Fiat engine has reportedly been axed, at least in the United States; it may be used in the Lancia version.
The Chrysler 200 will have the nine-speed ZF automatic , and is reportedly going to achieve up to 38 mpg, possibly in a special “HFE” model. In Europe, it will be sold as the Lancia Flavia . So far, there has been no word as to whether the 200 (body code UF) will appear as a convertible; the former Chrysler Sebring was once America's best-selling convertible, but when the top-maker was switched from ASC to Karmann, reliability plummeted and sales followed.
Pricing for the new 200 will most likely start out well above current sale prices; most likely, the MSRP will be dropped, but incentives will also be eliminated, ending the bargain pricing which has helped sales of the Avenger and 200 (to the detriment of the Dart).
Chrysler chief Saad Chebad implied that there would be no Dodge Avenger version of the Chrysler 200, referring to the 2009 Five Year Plan. A new plan is set to be unveiled on Thursday. [ See more in our upcoming cars section .]
