Mopar announced that Québec’s Andrew Ranger will drive the #28 Mopar car during the 2014 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series (NCATS) season. Currently 27 years old, he’s won the Series’ Championship in 2007 and 2009, run 58 races with 11 poles, 50 top-ten finishes, 34 top-5s, and 16 wins.

Mopar has been part of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series since its inception, along with the CASCAR Series which preceded it. In 2013, a Dodge won all 12 NCATS races; of the 60 total competitors throughout the season, 42 were Dodge-bodied and Scott Steckly, in the Canadian Tire Dodge, won the championship.

Mopar is also the title sponsor of the Canadian Superbike Championship and sponsor of the two biggest IHRA Drag Race events in North America: the Mopar Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals in Edmonton, Alberta and the Mopar Nitro Jam Nationals at Grand Bend, Ontario.

In 2009, Andrew Ranger was voted the Most Popular NASCAR Canadian Tire Series driver; the same year, he finished third in NASCAR’s NAPA Auto Parts 200 Nationwide event at Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve in Montréal. Last year, Ranger competed in three NCATS races, with first, second, and third place finishes.

TORONTO, ON

As has become tradition in recent years, the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will play a very prominent role at the Canadian Motorsports Expo this coming weekend. The show takes place February 7, 8 & 9 in Hall 5 of Toronto’s International Centre, across from Pearson Airport.

The core of the series’ display will be the massive hauler that serves as the base of operations for Canada’s national stock car championship during race weekends. It will be surrounded by six of the series’ immaculately prepared stock cars. The display will be staffed by NCATS series officials, who will offer impromptu, escorted tours of the hauler and answer questions about the series, throughout the weekend.

The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race cars on display in front of the NCATS hauler will be:

- The No. 02 Ford driven by Kerry Micks and Mark Dilley

- The No. 3 Dodge driven by Jason Hathaway

- The No. 5 Dodge of Noel Dowler

- The No. 18 Dodge of Alex Tagliani.

- The No. 22 Canadian Tire Dodge of three-time NCATS champ Scott Steckly

- The No. 25 driven by Joey McColm

The following NCATS cars will be on display in other booths at the CME:

- The No. 17 Castrol Dodge of two-time NCATS champion DJ Kennington will be at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park booth.

- The No. 47 Dodge driven by Louis-Philippe Dumoulin will be on display at the Eibach Canada booth.

In addition to the impressive display featuring the cars and hauler, the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series’ drivers and officials will be busy during the weekend, making announcements, hosting a driver information seminar and signing autographs for the fans.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7

On Friday (Feb. 7) at 1:30 p.m., Canadian racing star Alex Tagliani* will unveil his new racing team and program during a press conference at the NCATS display. The versatile racer, who has competed in IndyCar, NCATS, sports cars and karting during his career, is excited about announcing his big news at the NASCAR display at the CME.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 8

On Saturday (Feb. 8) at noon, Alex Tagliani will take to the Inside Track Stage at the CME to share his news with the fans, before heading to the NCATS hauler to sign autographs.

Then, starting at 1:30 p.m. (Sat.) in the NCATS display, fans will get a unique opportunity to watch the process of ‘wrapping’ a NASCAR stock car. Over the course of a few hours, the No. 02 Ford of veterans Kerry Micks and Mark Dilley will be transformed from its 2013 livery, to the colours and scheme that it will take to the track in, for the start of the 2014 Canadian Tire Series season.

At 2:00 p.m. (Sat.), NASCAR Sprint Cup star Ryan Newman will join several NCATS drivers at the Canadian Tire Series hauler for a group autograph session, following Newman’s on-stage Q&A and autograph session.

At 3:30 p.m., NASCAR will host its first ever Driver Information Session at the CME. NCATS Series Director Alex Nagy will be joined by NASCAR’s International Competition Liaison, Joe Balash, for a one-hour discussion with racers and teams who are curious about how they can get involved with Canada’s National NASCAR series. NASCAR officials, including Nagy and Balash, will also be at the NCATS hauler throughout the weekend to answer questions.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 9

On Sunday, February 9, at 11:45 a.m., three-time NASCAR Canadian Tire Series champion Scott Steckly will be on the Inside Track Stage at the CME for a presentation and announcement regarding his upcoming season. Several other NCATS drivers are also expected during this 30-minute Q&A session, which takes place immediately prior to NASCAR legend Richard Petty taking to the stage for his Q&A.

Tagliani Announces Team EpiPen

Canadian Tire Series Season On Deck For Quebec Star

Team Release

February 7, 2014 - 1:30pm

TORONTO, Ontario, Canada

Pfizer Canada Inc., the Canadian distributor of EpiPen® (epinephrine auto‐injector) is proud to announce its entry in the 2014 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series as the title sponsor of Alex Tagliani’s #18 Dodge.

“Pfizer is pleased to be entering the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series as Alex Tagliani’s title sponsor,” said Allen Van Der Wee, General Manager, Global Established Products Business Unit at Pfizer Canada Inc. “We are looking forward to partnering with Alex for a second year to raise awareness for food allergies and anaphylaxis management.”

At the eighth annual Canadian Motorsports Expo in Toronto powered by Inside Track Motorsports News, Tagliani unveiled the car that he will drive next season in Canada’s premier stock‐car series that competes across Canada from May to September.

Tagliani also announced the second year of the Summer of TAG (Treating Allergies with Genuine care), which will support his charity of choice, Anaphylaxis Canada, in their efforts to engage Canadians in a conversation about effective management of food allergies and what to do in the event of a reaction.

This spring, Tagliani will visit school students in three Canadian cities, Montreal, Toronto and Edmonton where he will raise awareness for anaphylaxis management. Food allergy is a growing public health issue in Canada with approximately 2.5 million Canadians affected by at least one food allergy, including Tagliani himself.

“As someone with a severe allergy to peanuts and tree nuts, I am extremely happy to once again be teaming up with Pfizer Canada and Anaphylaxis Canada to raise awareness of food allergies and anaphylaxis,” said Alex Tagliani. “I’m looking forward to an exciting summer of racing with the NASCAR Canadian Tire series and meeting fans right across Canada.”

With the goal of getting school children actively involved with Team EpiPen, Tagliani’s school visits will coincide with the launch of a Race Car Design Contest and a second edition of the Helmet Design contest. These two initiatives will give students the opportunity to see their allergy awareness message and design appear on the Canadian driver’s car and helmet. The helmet with the winning design will be auctioned off at the end of the season to raise funds for Anaphylaxis Canada.

Anaphylaxis Canada is the national leader in advocacy and education for people with food allergies. The organization’s approach to reducing the risk of anaphylactic reactions in both children and adults is focused on self‐management, community engagement, understanding, and respect.

“We are very excited to launch the Summer of TAG again this year,” said Laurie Harada, Executive Director of Anaphylaxis Canada. “As the mother of a son with multiple food allergies, I appreciate how Alex can inspire young people, encourage them to follow their dreams, and not let food allergies define them.”

Ummm. I notice they seem to have cancelled the www.motoplexspeedway.com annual 'Cruisin the Dub - 300' at Vernon, BC. I haven't found official reason(s) behind this (and, as usual, excuse my ignorance). It was the Okanagan (half-mile) track's largest race of the season so shouldn't go off very well with everyone affected. So, (NHRA- north) seems to have replaced this event with a new one at a (QUARTER-MILE) track? (sigh). Now only Edmonton and Saskatoon left as events west of Ontario. How long will that last? :angry2:

STOUFFVILLE, Ontario, Canada:

Coming off of a very successful 2013 season, Jason Hathaway and his Ed Hakonson Racing Team are looking forward to greeting the new season with a brand new look. After 11 years of running the Dodge and MOPAR brands, Ed Hakonson Racing will move to the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Impala body for the upcoming NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season.

The No. 3 Snap-on Tools/Rockstar Energy Drink Chevrolet was unveiled at the Canadian Motorsport Expo on February 7th at the International Centre in Toronto.

Team owner Ed Hakonson is excited about the look and opportunity that comes with running the new body style.

“We have been treated very well by Dodge and MOPAR family over the last 11 years, but our team felt that it was time to make a change and support one of the other great North American manufacturers in the Series,” he said.

“We think this will offer General Motors and Chevrolet a great spring board to leverage motorsports in the Canadian marketplace.”

Hathaway joined Ed Hakonson Racing in 2006 and won CASCAR Rookie of the Year honors. In The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series’ inaugural season in 2007, Hathaway posted 1 top-five finish and 7 top-10 finishes. The team’s ability to be a top contender was recognized when Hathaway was named the Series Most Improved Driver in 2008 and won the season-ending race at Kawartha Speedway.

From 2008 to 2012, Hathaway posted 10 top-five finishes and 32 top 10s. In 2013, the Dutton, Ontario driver ended his 59 race winless streak by recording his first of 2 wins at one of his favourite tracks – Riverside Speedway in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. That effort was backed up with another win at Barrie Speedway in early September. Consistently battling for podium finishes throughout the season E.H.R earned a third-place finish in the final NASCAR Canadian Tire Series points standings.

Since the end of the 2013 season, the entire team has continued their hard work throughout the winter months preparing cars and equipment for the upcoming 2014 season, which will be one of the toughest and most competitive in series history. With an 11-race schedule that will take the teams from Alberta to Nova Scotia, there is little room for error.

I talked to the director of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Shon Sabarra & he tells me that property Motorplex Speedway sits on was sold & the track is being demolished.

Edmonton, & Saskatoon will be the only western tracks left on the schedule, until another track can replace Motorplex Speedway.

I'm in contact with Shon often as I feel this series needs to be upgraded from a minor league series to make it into the similar level as the Sprint Cup here in the States. There's no real reason why they can't achieve this (other than the weather) Canada deserves to have their NASCAR to become a major marquee series.

They don't really have the tracks, Bob. Frankly, I was pleased that Nascar elevated them to the same status as the K&N series. What might help them is a combo event with K&N East & West - maybe midcountry like that gorgeous facility @ Road America. The Canadian drivers are very good road racers and might have a slight built-in advantage at a track like that.

Talked to Shon about that also, but it's the budget of the teams that prevent this the series from expanding. Canada HAS a bunch of paved short tracks & road courses that need to be discovered by the series but due the climate they can only run 12 races. May - September. On the other side of the coin, Canada has the $$, the fan base, & the land for opportunity to grow this series. Would like to see a 1 or 2 mile speedway be built to help give this series more viability & to help the drivers get the experience our drivers get here in the U.S. Canada deserves it's own big marquee stock car series on the same level as Sprint Cup is here in the U.S.
