My ram cruise control won`t turn on at times. I looked online for complaints and it seems to be a common problem with the 2014 Ram. My question is has anyone found a permanent fix? It seems like many have replaced the CC switch but the problem comes back in short order. I can smack the back side of the wheel with my hand to get it working( a suggestion I found online). But after some time it stops working again. I bought a new switch but I don`t want to waste my time if there is another issue that I should seek out.

If thumping the back of the steering wheel can bring it back on again, then I suspect a bad connection in the wheel, clockspring or column? If recall R36 has been completed, make sure that it was done right.
I have test driven vehicles with a scan tool next to me for live, real-time information when diagnosing cruise control. The factory tool can also tell me the reason for the last cruise cancellation (that usually won't set a fault code).
Intermittent or out-of-adjustment brake light switches were common offenders.
There are 2 possible recalls that may affect cruise operation, R36 (column wiring) and U61 (PCM flash):
