FCA has, unaccountably, put full details on the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL into its dealer information systems, where they were quickly leaked to  jlwranglerforums.com .

The engines will, be as Allpar has predicted for months, be a two-liter four-cylinder, with a turbocharger, direct injection, and efficient belt-starter-generator stop-start system ( the “Hurricane” ); the 3-liter VM V6 diesel; and the continuing 3.6 liter V6. Transmissions are, as previously thought, a six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic — the latter coming in 850RE and 8HP75 forms. 850RE is made by FCA, and 8HP75 is made by ZF.

For people who drive mostly on the street, there’s a full-time four wheel drive system on the Unlimited (Sahara only), with a 2.72:1 gear ratio.

A wide range of tires and wheels appear, in 17 and 18 inch forms, in all-season, all-terrain, and off-road forms. Aldo noted that the current Rubicon JK is 32.1 x 10.0, while the JL shows up as 32.7 x 11.2, “a huge increase in size, footprint and unsprung weight. Jeep must have increased engine power and efficiency, beefed up the suspension, and strengthened axles to handle [these] much larger, wider and heavier tires.”

Soft tops include the long-rumored power top (only in black), and standard and Sunrider soft tops (black or tan).

LED headlights continue, showing as optional on the Sahara and Rubicon now; they are currently standard on those trims.

Preliminary colors are “granite crystal metallic” (gray), acid yellow, firecracker red, billet silver, black, and “nacho.” Seats are black and tan cloth, black and tan leather, and black cloth or leather. Packages include a dual top group, steel bumpers, and the usual.

FCA lists a new trail management system, as well as a heavy-duty electrical group. The two-door Sahara seems to have been dropped; buyers have been choosing the four-door models more and more often, so there are just two of the traditional Wranglers left, Sport and Rubicon. One is presumably for those who want a Wrangler as cheap as they can get it; the other is for hardcore off-roaders who want increased mobility more than extra space.
