Fiat Chrysler has scheduled production of the 2019 Cherokee KL to start on January 2 at Belvidere Assembly, and one source claimed that dealers could order already.
The build codes confirm some of what we've already told you here , and contradicts some other reports. The big news is the two engines available on the 2019 Cherokee at launch: they do not include the 2.0 liter “Hurricane.” That engine was only rumored, never announced, and may still be coming — just not immediately. It’s also not going to be used in the first run of Jeep Wranglers, though some autowriters have already driven them.
The build codes indicate there is a 2.4 liter MultiAir, and the 3.2 liter VVT - but no 3.6 liter, and no 2.0-liter, as hoped by many. At least, they won't be available right away. Both engines in the mix at launch will be mated to the nine-speed 948TE automatic transmission.
Many had predicted that the 3.6 would be the standard engine, since the 3.2 has almost the same fuel economy is only used in the Cherokee, increasing build complexity and parts counts. Using the 3.6 would provide a horsepower and torque boost.
The four trim levels will continue to be the Latitude, Limited, Overland, and Trailhawk. According to the guide, only fleet sales will get a full-size spare; all others will get a compact spare (which is still better than a “flat fix kit.”)
Up to ten colors will be available, depending on trim level: Billet Silver Metallic Clear Coat, Bright White Clear Coat, Diamond Black Crystal P/C, Firecracker Red C/C, Granite Crystal Metallic C/C, Hydro Blue Pearl Coat, Light Brownstone Pearl Coat, Olive Green Pearl Coat, Pearl White Pearl Coat, and Velvet Red Pearl Coat.
Hydro Blue and Firecracker Red will be restricted to the Trailhawk; Olive will be available only on the Overland, Limited and Latitude. Granite Crystal will not be available on the Latitude, but it will be available on the Latitude Plus.
