The 2019 Ram 1500 is backed with a five-year/60,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty, and includes free towing to the nearest dealer, if necessary; it is trasnferable. There is also a three-year/36,000-mile Basic Limited Warranty for "bumper-to-bumper" coverage. The 2019 Ram 1500 is built at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant, north of Detroit, in Michigan.

Gadgets, gizmos, and safety

Safety features (some optional, and many shut-offable) include:

  • Surround View, using four cameras to provide a bird's-eye perspective of the truck and its surroundings on the new Uconnect 12-inch touchscreen. Drivers can also select different camera views, including front and rear cross path views.
  • Rear Cross Path (RCP) detection: Warns drivers backing out of parking spaces (or driveways) of traffic moving toward their vehicle; activated whenever the driver backs up, and uses icons on the side-view mirror and a chime
  • Blind spot monitors for safe lane changes (using dual ultra-wideband radar sensors)
  • Adaptive cruise control (maintains a distance)
  • Electric parking brakes using motors on the caliper at both rear wheels, with four modes: static apply and release, dynamic apply, drive away release, and safe hold.
  • Forward Collision Warning-Plus: Uses radar and video to detect whether the Ram 1500 is approaching an obstacle too rapidly, and warns or helps the driver to avoid or mitigate the incident
  • Lane Departure Warning-Plus: Tactile alerts and corrective action; can be shut off
  • Parallel/Perpendicular Park Assist: Uses ultrasonic parking sensors on the bumper; controls steering-wheel angle only (driver uses the brake and gas pedals). The system also includes regular pull/reverse parking with haptic feedback and by stopping the car to prevent a collision (at speeds under 4 mph).
  • Rain brake: Occasionally pushes brake pads lightly against brake rotors in rainy conditions to keep rotors dry
  • Ready Alert Braking: Anticipates when the driver may need an emergency stop and moves brake pads to the rotors to decrease stopping distance

More specifications are in our main article.

What did we get right?

Eight-speed automatics
Lighter materials
Hemi, V6, diesel continue (we missed the eTorque and the diesel isn't here [yet?]; and no direct injection six)
More cab space
Toggle switches
Better aero, more light/sensor integration
Belt starter-generator stop-start systems and 48V
Split tailgate (coming on the heavy duty?)
Better air suspension
Added storage
Keeping the basic instrument panel design
Focusing on many different bottlenecks, rather than a single technology
