Expect to see this on the Bronco as well since they share the next generation platform.

The powertrain was the weakest spot of the new Ranger.

Agreed. The 2.3 EcoBoost was mediocre for the North American market compared to GM offering a 6 cylinder and diesel.

Ford had planned to replace the Ranger using the Bronco platform for more than 5 years. The current Ranger was always a stopgap product in North America. Since brand loyalty in pickups is very strong, Ford knew it was better to temporarily participate with a weaker hand than to sit out the segment altogether and allow GM products to take a strong hand.

Everyone also knew Toyota would be coming with a new Tacoma. This is a market where Toyota is strong.

I don’t know, most of the reviews of Ranger have raved about the powertrain as being the bright spot of the vehicle...with ride and suspension being the weakest links...though apparently the new Tremor package really improves ride and handling. In any case, with the next gen it’ll offer more engine choices...and the PHEV sounds good.

The current Ranger was meant to get Ford’s foot in the door, and they’ve done just that and more. They didn’t sit around debating on whether or not to get back in the market and take forever on development and change their minds 100 times (except on Bronco)...unlike FCA’s pattern of vehicle development. How long did we wait for a Jeep truck? Will there EVER be a Dakota?

Plug in Wrangler is here today, PHEV Gladiator is coming shortly.

Plug in variants for everything Jeep/Ram will start arriving from Stellantis around the same time, if not earlier. WL74/75 & WS will have PHEV variants.

All future Dodge/Chrysler product will have PHEV variants as well.

PHEV is not for everyone but it should be a big seller for our suburban warriors. If its like the pacifica where the first 30 miles is all electric it would be perfect as a commuter, which most folks use their trucks to get to work any way.
