I suggest only a pan drop, filter replacement, and refill with licensed atf+4 is needed. Not certain what a full flush is but the owner's manual and service manual specifically note a flush is not recommended.
I will respectively disagree with that statement. Transmission fluid flush will purge the torque converter and transmission cooler and transmission internals of old fluid and replenish with new fluid. Dropping the pan and replacing the filter and fluid allows one to remove any particle debris in the bottom of the transmission pan. But it is extra work to disconnect a hose and flush the cooler. Do service personnel take the extra steps to do that procedure??? And draining the pan does NOT remove old fluid from the torque converter.. . . .Flushing is basically a way to drain your wallet. Listen to what Gerry said. . . . .
The service writer at my dealership recommended first service to be the drop-the-pan service so the filters (the 545RFE on my Ram has two filters) get changed and then the next service it can be flushed. Then continue to alternate the services. So I would offer that one do 2 transmission flushes over a many year time period and then the 3rd service should be a pan drop with fluid drain and filter replacement. That would give the best overall service and advantages of each specific type of maintenance..
Or you can follow the severe service schedule, change the fluid every 30K, and you'll be fine. We don't know how long they last if you do that, but we've got two of them at 180-190K now.I will respectively disagree with that statement.
