I am looking at a 83 lebaron that needs some work ( it is a convertiable ) They said that the flex plate broke so the car does not move. has anyone had this ever happen to them. If it is a easy fix I might be interested. It is a 4 cly engine .
You have to pull the axles and the transmission out, replace the plate, put it back in. For some people here, they can do that in their sleep. It's a challenge for others, and for some people, nothing they'd take on themselves. Depends on your ability, tools and facilities.
I had a cracked flex plate on an 87 Horizon I had. I didn't need the car, so I sold it and that guy fixed it. He said it was a chore, but he admitted that he really didn't know what he was doing.
A LOT of work , just Old school Muscle & grunting Mechanics ,, coupled with some good sense of accuracy ,, -a job I would not take on ,unless it is a really special vehicle.
