I have a 98 GC which has been very reliable. Garaged and with about 88,000 miles. This cold, Chicago morning, I started it and the usual dash light indicators came on then went off as they are supposed to do. All except the ABS light which remained on for the time that I backed the van out of the garage and onto the driveway whereupon I noticed it. I turned the ignition switch of then re-started it. The light came on then went off like usual. A subsequent short trip for coffee and a re-start after parking it and the light lingered a little, upon start up but went off. Thisis the amber light with the ABS sort of in parentheses. The red warning was not a problem.

I did have a battery change about one month ago but had no problems during the change or since so I cannot link the battery with the light. Also, the van turned over like gang busters upon hitting the switch so that tells me nothing wrong with the battery.

I will need some added checks to discern if it happens only during a start up or if it happens again but would appreciate your input.

If the yellow ABS light comes on, a helpful fault code is stored in the ABS module (even if the light goes out later or is intermittent). Low brake fluid level may trigger both the yellow ABS and red BRAKE warning lamps.
Some auto parts stores may have a free-use code reader capable of reading ABS fault codes. Don't replace anything just yet.

And check fuses and check the brake lights. On some vehicles, if the brake light fuse blows, the ABS light and brake warning light come on. There might be variations on this scheme.

Thanks for the comments. I will check the fluid and the brake lights. Easy enough. I did let the van sit for about 2 hours and started her up; no problems. But an indication was there and cars don't heal themselves.

I had a similar issue on the 1999 Town and Country I used to own. One summer the ABS light came on intermittently and would always go out the next start up. Finally I had a chance to put a scan tool on it and the fault was something about the controller. I suspect it was a bad wiring connection somewhere but after that it never came back again. The van is still going, a relative owns it now and no ABS problems in the past 5 or more years.
