At a much higher price point. These bargin basement prices are going away for the 200 once this current generation is done. Also your forgetting the fact that the Dart is getting the 9 speed as well which is going to bump up its fuel economy as well.
If they want to play against Camry/Accord, etc, prices can't go much higher.

Dart will not get 9-speed until late 2014 as Jeep Cherokee and Chrysler 200 get priority (according to Sergio)

The higher price point is going to come from the elimination of the heavy incentives.

It's funny how this thing is supposed to be less than 1 yr from launch, Allpar keeps saying that Lancia engineers are working on it and still, in Europe, we have near NO knowledge of the car, its engines, and of whether it'll make it to Europe or not.
Lancia engineers on assignment to Auburn Hills.

Exactly, as it says in the article - we expect a LOWER retail price but a HIGHER actual transaction cost.

The car sounds great, need to see the what the final product looks like. The 1.4 was probably a great economy motor but i guess too pricey to compete with the other Chrysler offerings, hate to see it go. I think it was too soon to announce its elimination.

I don't think the 1.4L motor is suited well enough for something that size in the US. It needs to keep ahead of the Accord and such, and the 2.4L TS motor is beefed up a bit, I don't think it will pull off the economy or sporty side good enough in a vehicle that size, cause looking at the Dart and how Chrysler ususally does their vehicles, they're a bit on the heavy side compared to a majority of the competition.

If this car will be launched in Europe (as a Lancia), it would definitely need the Pratola Serra 1.8 turbo engine, but it seems that engine is not mentioned? (And obviously, it would need diesels...)
It will likely get the 2.0 turbo diesel that we are discussing in another thread. The list I have shows D segment getting both 1.8 Europe and 2.0 ( US?).

I assume you mean 1.8 gas and 2.0 diesel?
A 2.0 diesel is mandatory if it is to be sold in Europe. It's easily 70% of the market for that car.

I believe they only mean it in reference to the 200, not altogether.

Yes. That's it. 1.4 not in the 200. 1.4 continues in the Dart
Chances they make the 1.4 the base engine? Also with the news of the Cruze diesel debuting at Chicago, I wonder if there is a diesel they can fit in the Dart to compete? That would be something I would have strong interest in.

I hope they make a convertible.

So far, there has been no word as to whether the 200 (body code UF) will appear as a convertible; the former Chrysler Sebring was once America’s best-selling convertible, but when the top-maker was switched from ASC to Karmann, reliability plummeted and sales followed.
I may be wrong, but I dont think the top manufacture had little to do with sales, I think it had to do with Styling & Interior Fit n Finish.

As for the Top, mine has not givin me any issues, but many that have had issues, tend to be from miss use, not from mechanical failure.

Another issue is weight, something the Dart already has an issue with.
The Alfa Giulietta, on which the Dart is based, does not have a weight problem as far as I know, how come it's such a problem with the Dart? Cheaper (heavier) materials? The change from Compact to CUSW? Or just the Dart being a bigger car?

The Dart is kinda in a grey area between C and D class it seems, and it's 68% HSS if I'm recalling correctly. The Giulietta is pretty average/right in the middle of the C class I think. Also, they designed it in mind for US safety standards (which are a bit harder to meet than the EU tests from what I've heard) the Giulietta wasn't at all. I also believe they designed the Dart with the intent of being more versitle and having physically larger engines and transmission combos than the Giulietta, I'm sure Bob or someone can make a better comment about that than I can.

So does anyone know how long the current 200 is going to be produced? I want to buy a new 200 S (hopefully at a bargain basement price) but I'm not sure if 2013 will be the last year for the current 200? Lot's of confusion out there about the new redesigned one. How long will I be able to buy the current model (brand new)?

Thanks,

Cool... So I won't necessarily have to get a 2013 then:)

I noticed you have a 2001 200 S. May I ask how you like it? I test drove one awhile back and came away very impressed. I would be looking at the S package on the limited version (V-6).

The one question I have though is maintenance cost on it. What the is maintenance schedule like on the 3.6? Are the plugs easy to change or does it cost a small fortune to have them done? I assume they are 100K mile plugs. I also need to see how much those 18" tires run...

I love it. Rides good, has plenty power. The plugs are 100k AFAIK. Ive only had to put out money for a oil change so far. The 18" tires will run you about 110-130 for some good rubber.
