Despite earlier reports that the Durango would not be surviving to a new generation, the 2014 Dodge Durango is indeed moving along, according to insiders, with the first test cars coming down the assembly line later this month. Changes are expected to mirror the Grand Cherokee, with the new eight-speed automatics across the board, PowerNet electronics, UConnect 2, upgraded Magenti Marelli optics in front and rear, and, we’re told, racetrack tail-lamps in back, bringing Dodge’s new trademark look to its third car after Charger and Dart. Due to the lower volume of Durango sales, we do not expect to see the diesel option or an SRT8 version. If diesel orders are extremely high, though — especially among actual end users, as opposed to cars ordered by dealers “on spec” — adding a diesel option would not be a difficult engineering feat, only an expensive one (due to the additional..

I think there would be great benefits for Chrysler......well, at least for Chrysler's customers. Something that seats my whole family (assuming that a new Durango would maintain the 3rd row seat) with a diesel and its fuel mileage/maintenance schedule/power combination would be great! I think there needs to be a minivan alternative out there, and I think that it needs to be as efficient as possible seeing as it would be the principal people hauler for those that haul people around a lot.
While I agree with you, the bean counters and inventory managers don't seem to agree.

The change to the back of the Durango makes it look so much better. Plus it will be instantly recognizable for what it is, and stand out from the mulitude of SUV's on the road.
i would have preferred a more "charger/dart" light treatment. obvious this isn't the actual product so i guess we will have to wait. do we know if it will be at the next auto show?

Keep in mind, the picture is simply Jack's representation of what it MAY look like, it's not the actual Durango.
Remember guys, the image above is an artist representation based on rumors on Allpar.
Minor correction: Durango would be the FOURTH vehicle with racetrack tail lamps. You forgot the first one.....Challenger.
Challenger does not have racetrack tail lamps.

Well,

Hopefully somebody can start to post MPG for the Hemi with 8 speed tranny combo. The Durango needs some help with the MPG's.

Heh... on a side note, I hope they do exactly that to the Challenger in the near future.

Agreed. I'm surprised that they haven't already!
Waiting for the next gen/refresh maybe?

I feel like doing some photoshop; so I think I'll play with some Durango tails :)

It's a lot more than just dropping on the Dart tails, trust me. xD

They will with the refresh, but expect a different design..

On a side note, with Durango having the race-taillight, it will surely differentiate it from the GC and other CUV

Oh, no doubt. Although, I can almost see them keeping the current rear light shape, and just putting LEDs in it.

Agreed! Would really set it off nicely IMO!

While I understand the sentiment, as a "bean counter" and a Mopar enthusiast, I have a slight resentment to that statement :).....
