A new but credible source wrote that the 2014 Jeep Cherokee will indeed use the Fiat two-liter diesel engine, the first time this powerplant has been used by Jeep. Certified by EU5+ emission standards, it will be sold only in countries that have low-sulfur diesel fuel (this includes some regions of India). The Cherokee’s version of the Fiat 2.0 MultiJet will have peak power of 170 hp (125 kW) at 4,000 rpm, with a hefty 258 lb-ft of torque (350 Nm) available at 1,750 rpm — when paired with the nine-speed automatic. In countries with power-based taxation, and when paired with the six-speed manual, a lower output diesel (140 hp) will be available. The Fiat diesels are highly respected, despite some issues with carbon/soot buildup with the EGR system.
